Foundational Yoga Class

Class is structured for individuals who has none to limited formal experience in learning a structured Hatha Yoga class. The class explores a number of fundamental asanas in a structured manner while focusing on alignment, strength and flexibility. This class helps you gain enough knowledge and insight to be a self-learner. I very well understand that everyone is different and thus you are not expected to become an expert in performing all the asanas to perfection. Instead, the focus is for you to gain solid fundamentals on various asanas that can help you with your practice.

You will be taught how to utilize the wall and props such as belts and blocks to guide you through proper form and slowly build up your flexibility. Depending on your innate flexibility, you may or may not need the props. It is perhaps better to wait for the first few classes for me to assess your situation and then make your purchase.

Yoga, like any exercise requires practice to improve. Thus it is important that you are able to come every week (minus any extreme circumstances) since we will not only be introducing new poses in every week, but also solidifying what we learned in previous classes.

Every class contains at most 5 students to ensure that I can give close attention to everyone. We use Zoom for the online session and uses the WhatsApp group chat for day-to-day communication. Feel free to contact me if you would like to know more information before booking the class.

FAQs

Am I fit to take this class ?

It is apt for people who has limited Yoga experience (as those watching/learning from YouTube) as well as for people who have not done Yoga at all. Once you register for the course, I will contact you to learn more about your specific needs and will do an appropriate evaluation. If you have been doing Yoga consistently or have had a instructor led foundational course, then you should register for the Practice Session instead.

What is the fee ?

Class is structured for 8 consecutive weeks with 2 classes per week. Group session (16 classes in total) is $140. Half of the fee ($70) is charged upon registration and remaining is charged after the fifth week.

What is the refund policy ?

You can cancel 5 days prior to the first class to get full refund. You will get 50% refund for canceling before the fifth class. Since spots are limited, there are no refunds after the fifth class.

Do I have to come for both classes ?

I highly recommend that if you can, then come to both classes. We cover the same topic in both classes. In theory you won’t miss anything if you just show up for one class. However, Hatha Yoga is very physical and with more repetition you will get more opportunities to get me to correct the mistakes and solidify the asanas faster.

Do you offer private session ?

Yes. Contact me so that we can work out the timings. Private session follows the same curriculum and lasts 8 consecutive weeks with 2 classes per week. Feel free to reach out to me for more information and fees details.

Do you provide in-person class ?

Not now due to the COVID situation. After December, in-person sessions will most likely start again depending on how the COVID situations improve.

What if I miss a class ?

If you miss very few classes (up to 2) it can be made up. However, try not to miss both classes in any week, as it can be difficult to make-up. Since unexpected things do happen, I often schedule a meetup on the weekends to get you up to speed. If you have planned vacations, do let me know so that I can schedule make-up sessions in advance to get you up to speed. All make-up sessions are provided online only.

What if the instructor cancels a class ?

Canceling up to 1 class should not impact the pace. I have structured the curriculum in such a way that some materials can be caught up. However, anything more can impact the curriculum and to account for that, the class will extend to additional weeks to make-up.

Do I need to buy the props ?

Most people will have to buy some props since your flexibility will be limited if you have not been a yoga practitioner before. If you don’t have the props already, you can wait for first few classes for me to help you assess your needs to see if you need the props to go through the Foundational Yoga Class.
